Teacher Reading Rocker

I was asked to paint a rocking chair and personalize it for a kindergarten teacher to use in her classroom for when she read to her kiddos.  I had so much fun channeling my inner crafty teacher.  Which, isn’t too much of a stretch since I basically grew up in my Momma’s school and classroom.  Now you know where I got my love for school supplies from.

Lauren pretty much gave me full freedom to do whatever I wanted for her rocker.  Using a book and Dr. Seuss theme to match her classroom I went to town designing the artwork for her chair.

I first sanded and primed the rocker, allowing a full 24 hours for the primer to set.  I used Glidden’s Red Geranium in a high gloss on the chair.

Using a few files from the Silhouette store I created her name in bookends and added the apple.  I cut the design using my Silhouette machine and Oracle 651 adhesive vinyl.  Before applying the vinyl I made sure to let the paint cure on the chair for a few days.  I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge to the surfaces I was going to adhere vinyl too.  This gave the paint the perfect protection it needed.  Once I applied the vinyl I gave the area another coat of Mod Podge to protect the design.

I used the same technique on the seat of the chair as I did to the top.  I applied a few more coats of Mod Podge after applying to give extra protection to the seat.

I really love how the whole project turned out.  Can’t wait for Lauren to use it in her classroom.  Big thanks to her and her mom, Betty Jane, for letting me be a part of such a fun project.
